This weekend, my daughter and I went to see the new movie Man of Steel.  The movie is about Superman from the comic book series that started way back in the 1930s, about 80 years ago.

From Wikimedia:  “Superman was created by writer Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster, high school students living in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1933; the character was sold to Detective Comics, Inc. (later DC Comics) in 1938. Superman first appeared in Action Comics #1 (June 1938) and subsequently appeared in various radio serials, television programs, films, newspaper strips, and video games. With the success of his adventures, Superman helped to create the superhero genre and establish its primacy within the American comic book.”

The movie followed the original story of Superman’s origin from the planet Krypton which was destroyed by natural forces, with very few of its inhabitants escaping the destruction.  The movie was very intense with one action scene after another, but it was certainly entertaining.  I imagine fans of the comic series and the other movies about Superman will probably be satisfied with the movie.

Such movies and the fantasy that they are based on are all great fun.  I find it interesting, though, that we are all so fascinated with the idea of a creature like us imbued with super powers and living among us incognito.  What we tend to forget is that we actually had such a human being with super powers that lived among us.  When Jesus walked this earth, He lived simply and humbly.  In so many cases, he deliberately rejected fame, glory, and notoriety, choosing to remain a humble servant, even being born in the humblest of settings, a stable.  Yet, he had such astonishing power as the Son of God and as God Himself.  You will all remember the story of Him walking on water showing His power over all the elements, but after His resurrection, He showed that He had power over time and space by appearing anywhere He wanted to in a split second without having to walk or run there.  And time and time again, He showed His power over life, matter, illness, and anything that you can possibly think of.

There certainly was never a more powerful man that walked this earth in reality or in our imagination.  As powerful as He was, though, He came to this earth only to serve and to show the tremendous love of God.  Moreover, His main mission in His first coming was to die on the cross as the Perfect Lamb Sacrifice to pay for the sins of all mankind, for any who will accept Him as Lord and Savior.  There has been no greater man to walk this earth, past, present, or future, and He certainly puts all superheroes that we can imagine to shame in His Power and His Purpose.

I pray that you will come to know this all-powerful God who came to this earth to give us salvation.  And if you already know Him, I pray that you will walk in close fellowship with Him and give Him glory for all the amazing traits that He possesses and for the Glorious Savior that He Is.

i think the real super man is the man who deals his all affairs with patience and justice. The comic's superman are created by the writer it is true. They did't even relate with the real life. The real superman can only be created by God.

I'm a retired soldier, having spent 23 years of my life serving our country, actually 30 years when you count the reserve and National Guard time as well.  I believe in servant leaders, following the example of our Lord, and I believe in giving back to the troops once one has attained a certain status or level of success in life.  But I also believe in fighting back against corruption and incompetence wherever you find it if it hurts people.  Our national values were worth dying for.  They are also worth living for.  A man or woman can actually live a life by these principles of humility, service, love, duty, and honor, and have a significant impact on the world around them...if you have the dedication to see it through.
