One topic which is related to yesterday’s topic of discouragement is the taking of risks.  I believe that God wants us to dream big and to attempt great things to impact this world with His Will, since we are the arrows from His quiver as His spiritual children (all those saved by Jesus, trusting in His Sacrificial Work of Redemption in the cross and the resurrection).  God can, of course do mighty things by Himself without our help if He so desires.  He did create the world after all.  When there is no one else available that He can work through, He can even work through animals, such as Balaam’s donkey, or He can work through nature, sending messages to people and nations through virtually any kind of earthquake or natural event (becoming supernatural, of course, when God directs it).  Suffice it to say that God can work any way He chooses and in any method He chooses out of His Wisdom.

But it gives Him pleasure and glory to use His spiritual children to project His Will onto this earth and throughout all nations and cultures in the world’s history. Knowing that God desires to work through us and that He desires for us to be useful instruments in His hand, we should endeavor to spend time with Him daily.  This daily time with Him permits Him to train us and gives Him opportunity to put His Power and Wisdom into us.  This empowering for His work is so essential; our prayer and scriptural meditation time are so necessary for us be capable of doing His work.  We also need regular fellowship and worship time with other believers to give us courage and strength, like iron sharpening iron, so that we go back into the community renewed with greater purpose for the daily work we do in God’s name.  But as we endeavor to do things in His name, we will have to take risk, just as David took great risk in daring to stand up to Goliath.

This is where our courage comes in, as we refuse to give in to negative thoughts, worries, and fears, and just keep our focus on the goal that we are aiming for, remembering that He is with us all the way and that He is giving us the power to fight and He is controlling and ensuring the outcome.   The world does not rest on our shoulders; it rests in the hands of God.  And we should always remember that the more important things in life require great effort and many times great risk, whether the risk is simply our fear of failure or whether the risk is the fear of emotional wounding as we open up our heart or our life to another human being, daring to love them or do loving things for them.  Whatever the risk is, we must remember always that God is in control so that we do not allow our fears and worries to have control, always keeping our eyes on the prize and on our Lord.

I pray that you will have courage to dream, risk, attempt, and succeed at great things in the name of God.

I totally agree, I believe the same that believe that God wants us to dream big and to attempt great things to impact this world with His Will. God test our patience, courage and our strength against every hard time and how we deal with it. Great post.

I'm a retired soldier, having spent 23 years of my life serving our country, actually 30 years when you count the reserve and National Guard time as well.  I believe in servant leaders, following the example of our Lord, and I believe in giving back to the troops once one has attained a certain status or level of success in life.  But I also believe in fighting back against corruption and incompetence wherever you find it if it hurts people.  Our national values were worth dying for.  They are also worth living for.  A man or woman can actually live a life by these principles of humility, service, love, duty, and honor, and have a significant impact on the world around them...if you have the dedication to see it through.
