Galatians 6:8 warns us, “For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.” Whatever a person focuses on and dedicates to will determine what they become, for purposes of evil or good. My own testimony is a polar opposite of these Castro brothers. I have spent a lifetime focused on learning about God, studying the Bible, committing my actions to Biblical teachings, submitting to Him on all things, and on learning all things from His Wise, Gentle, Patient, Loving Training of my heart and mind. He has taught me how to view things in the world (perspective), how to love and serve all those around me, what wisdom really is, what compassion really is, how to humble myself and subordinate my pride, how to be the best husband, father, and military leader that I could possibly be. The lessons were endless and still continue. I was a piece of work in the beginning of His training program for me, but I was probably no better or worse than any other average person.
As he has trained me, I have changed my mind about a lot of things. I have recently learned what is the proper, loving Christian response to homosexuality. I have known many gay people over the years and was never mean toward them that I can remember. I may have made gay jokes at one time, but God taught me how hurtful such remarks can be, so I no longer label or judge gay people or anyone else. As I stated, I was probably no better or worse than anyone else, but I at least did have a desire to be better, which made all the difference in the world when God was trying to teach me. Among the things that he taught me out of is the idea I once had that homosexuality was the greatest sin or the chief of sins. I no longer think that. I think all sin is bad. We tend to rank order sin in order to preen our egos, thinking that maybe we’re not that bad since we are not as bad as we judge others to be. But as Jesus taught, this is faulty thinking.
More on this tomorrow. I pray that you will all find God’s Will in your heart, that you will see His Work in your life, and that you will overflow with joy, being filled with His Loving Spirit.
